Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Have been married for 7 years, have young child. Have been a stay at home mom and/or full - time student since child was born. Husband had much better credit than I did, so both our current townhouse and previous condo were solely in his name. I have asked repeatedly for my name to be added, if for no other reason than to protect myself and my child if he and i should divorce (there is a chance we are headed in the direction). He has sais it is "on his list" of things to do - for the past three years! How do I protect myself and my child? I am a full-time graduate student, and cannot work a retail job because of three, inoperable herniated discs in my lower back. (this is all I am currently qualified to do)

What do I do? I don't want to divorce my husband, but I have to be prepared for the worst. Thank you.

PS....I am faced with the same question about our cars, but there are other issues with them.
