Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

so my parents are deceased I havea mentally retarded sister who I have been taking care of for 17 years now for some reason social services wants to appoint some stranger to be her guardian I don't know why I can't be I don't know why after all these years there's an issuewhat do I need to do do I need power of attorney papers for her and me or how do you become a legal guardian

You should be able to file a petition with your local

circuit court to be appointed your sister's guardian, unless, of course, there are credible reasons having to do with your fitness for such an appointment. (POA papers do not work for the situation described, and, if you can afford to do so, I would highly recommend your engaging the services of a local domestic relations counsel to handle this matter in your behalf.)
