Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

General Question

My Question is this I have had a storge unit for 6 months that a family member asked me to pay for and I did and now that I have stopped paying for it and closed out the account they are very upset at me because I wont give them the stuff from the unit because the unit was in my name and I paid for it all this time and they owe me a great deal of money because of this entire matter and now that I have notified them of this they are telling me I will be seeing them in court what does a lawyer cost to protect my self againist this person. They are homeless and I have been more than nice about this I gave them 6 months to pay me and they choose not to even when they had a job and a place to live they choose to skip out on this and now I'm left holding it all and I am just trying to recoup what I have put out and I don't think I've done anything wrong.

Re: General Question

I believe that attorney Jonathon Moseley has already addressed this very question quite recently.

(In short your homeless relative is making idle threats and it is very doubtful that you will ever need the services of an attorney to protect yourself from whatever action that this particular person might threaten to file against you.)
