Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Personal Property

I recently moved to the Woodbridge, VA. area. While I moved here for job reasons. The person I was engaged to marry decided to end the relationship and keep my personal property. She lives in Baytown, Texas and I currently live in Woodbridge, Virginia. I want to know what I can do to get my stuff back.

Re: Personal Property

Did she take your stuff from Va to Texas or did she stay with your personal property in Texas the whole time?

If it was always in Texas, then this question would be under Texas law and you would have to deal with it in Texas. Virginia would not have jurisdiction over the question. I am only licensed in Virginia.

Generally speaking in Virginia you would file a Warrant in Detinue in General District Court demanding the return of your things. But unless she took your things from you in Virginia, you would have to do it in Texas.
