Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

church lawsuit-child physically attacked

I am at a loss and need some help. My daughter goes to a preschool inside a church. Her teacher attacked her physically in the classroom and is being charged with either assault or assault and battery. There was an indefinite rise in incidents and accidents and violence from the kids and the director never bothered to investigate any of this. I know they are considered non profit and one lawyer said we couldn't do anything, but that seems unreal to me. I need someone who actually know this kind of stuff who can help me. My daughter is emotionally scarred and I'm not sure how long therapy will last but I feel the preschool, as well as the teacher, should be held responsible. They use the money to keep the church afloat, and they are bound by health code and have to report things to social services who then investigates so how is this not a business? I don't want a million dollars I just want the people responsible for hurting my child and allowing it to happen by negligence to be held responsible for bills and suffering. Please can someone help me fight this and give me some detailed advice?
