Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

Property Owner's Right-of-way

What distance between the city street and the property owner's line is officially ''the city's''?

What is the code regarding property owner trimming next door neighbor's over-growth across property line?

When cutting neighbor's over-growth, can it be placed in front of their house (not mine) for spring clean-up?

Re: Property Owner's Right-of-way

The city's property normally runs right up to and abuts the owner's property line.

An owner may normally trim back to his property line overgrowth from trees or shrubs from a neighbor's property-----as long as it's done in a manner which does not damage or cause the over-growing shrubs and/or trees to die.(This is easier said than done and to shield an owner from possible liability, the services of a professional tree trimmer should usually be engaged for these kinds of tasks.)

The cut or trimmed shrubbery and/or tree limbs may be placed anywhere along the curb for pickup as long as it's permitted by the applicable city or county rules for the curbside pick up of trash and debris discarded by adjacent property owners.
