Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Virginia

we have a rental house in Norfolk VA, We rented to an older couple, they have just moved out, Apparently there was a shooting at the house a couple months ago..no one was hurt Thank God! but damage has been done to the house. the neighbors told us it was a ex Boyfriend of the daughter's. (she is not on the lease)The tenants have never told us about the incident. We now see the 3 bullet holes in the garage. 2 in the older aluminum siding & 1 in the fiberglass garage door. We are also concerned w/ the defamation of "our Property Quality" as we have alot of Military here that come from all over, that alot will google the area of the property for crime & sex offenders etc. What are our rights?? and where do we start ?

You could start by securing a credible estimate as to the cost of repairing

this damage to your garage occasioned by these gunshots and then send

a demand notice to your former tenants that they pay for the cost of this repair.

As for any claims that you might attempt to assert from someone "googling"as described or for defamation of "[your] Property Quality", you can forget about these as utterly speculative in terms of their legal validity under these facts (in my opinion).
