if u get in trouble with the cops and u are over 18 can the cops legally tell ur parents if u don't live at home

Yes. The police can tell anyone anything they want, if it suits their purposes. If they lie, that may lead to some liability on their part, but in your situation, that does not seem to be a problem for them. My suggestion: If you don't want your parents to find out for some reason, and you know the police are going to do it, perhaps to pressure you in some way, then get out ahead of them and tell your parents yourself. It may be rough, but it will be better than if they hear it from the police.
