Legal Question in Construction Law in Washington

Recovery

We are a registered contractor. The customer (''P'') signed our contract and we did the work believing his promises to pay us when his large inheritance was released from a trust account. Two months and numerous broken promises later we know he has no intention to pay us. What kind of recovery can we pursue and how? Appreciate your help.

Re: Recovery

You can sue him for breach of contract (express or implied) and recover the benefit of the bargain you conferred on your customer.

You can file in small claims if the amount owed is less than $4,000.00. If it is more, you are better off to hire a lawyer to do it for you.

If you want a referral, consider talking to Jennifer Apitz in Auburn. You can find contact information for any Washington lawyer at wsba.org.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
