Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

I had a gym membership with someone who was a friend at the time, with a gym called global fitness, this was in 2007 and everything for the gym was set up thru her stuff, she was the main person on the membership the money came out of her account, and i was a secondary. we had a falling out so i quit going to the gym and yes made the mistake of not paying them after that. well they eventually sent me to collections, and i have not responded any contact with them at all untill a couple months ago. i pulled a credit report and had called every number on the list to find out what i was in collections for and explained to all of them that i was starting to organize my debt and in the next month or so i would be back in touch to set up getting it paid off. and today i got served in the mail with papers and not only are they wanting me to pay them what i owe them but also all the court and lawyer and filing fees, and with everything combined it takes what the debt was and doubles it. and attached was a page from the collections agency saying if i would like to discuss the legal action i can contact their business and discuss my options with them? what should i do?

Contact CountryWide Debt Relief or similar debt relief company might not be a bad start. They have the experience to help you handle this and organize your debt as well as get it negotiated. however, don't expect pie in the sky results. It sounds like you recognize the debts are what you owe.
