Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

I had a motorcycle stored at a friend's house. It was unlicensed. Someone borrowed it who did not have a legal drivers license and I did not know the person. He was stopped by law enforcement. The motorcycle was impounded. I was notified later, by mail, saying that I owed towing costs and storage. I have no money. I did not reclaim the motorcycle. Now, the towing/storage company wants $1400 and is threatening to turn me into collections. They can have the bike. I don't have $1400. Can they sue me for the money and win?

I would say they have a high probability of winning, but if they sue you, you should cross-claim (bring in another party) against the person who took and operated the motorcycle, for the costs to you and the value of the motorcycle.
