time limit for charges to be filed on a 17 yr old

My son , 17 years old. is being accused of rape and it has been over 3 days now and I have not heard anything on charges but he is being held in the awfullest place in juvenile detention. I was told today that the prosecutor has not filed charges yet and that is why he does not have a public defender. Isn't there a time limit for this? I want to give the Public defender some information that will prove she is lying and to get my son home were he belongs but no one will tell me anything and here is sits in that awful place.

You need to get an attorney for your son. Generally the State has 48 hours ( excluding weekends and holidays) to file a charge or the def. is to be released . They can still charge him later
