Legal Question in DUI Law in Washington

DUI and missed court appearance

I got into an accident while intoxicated, it was an unoccuppied vehicle. I went to the first court appearance and they gave me a new date. I was in the process of moving and told the public defender this. She said she could advise me to do this but I could leave and not come to my date and deal with it when i could. My question is how do i go about quashing a bench warrant and fixing what i have done. I live in another state and have little money to go back. Basically i am asking what can i do to fix this whole situation. i have not told anyone about this and I am completly lost. I would greatly appreciate any help. I really have never done anything close to this. I have never been in trouble with the law. Thank you very much.

Re: DUI and missed court appearance

Dear Jody,

My name is James White and I have 12 years of doing criminal defense work experience. You need to contact your public defender on the best way to quash your warrant. It will be very difficult to do without appearing as the reason you got it was for not appearing. If you are in good contact with an attorney and are willing to settle the case by plea bargain, it is possible to have your plea bargain ready to go so you can take care of the case and quash the warrant all in one day. Good luck in resolving this matter.
