Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

fired for not bringing in doctors note

I was injured on the job, not being able to work and injury filed w/L&I also recieved fmla for this injury. was told to come back on light duty , this is the 2nd request, 1st time not able to continue on light duty injury became much worse and did bring in a doctors note stating I could not work and was permanent disability. my employer then told me I still had to come back on a different type of light duty . I was so upset and explained that I could not even get out of bed. I was then told that I would have to bring in another doctors note for this injury and call in every day. I failed to do this because of mistakes made by a doc. who did not care. so I recieved notice that I was terminated and have also lost all of my workers comp. pay. I dont know what to do. please, please help. thanks

Re: fired for not bringing in doctors note

Talk to an attorney who handles worker's compensation. Many of them (probably most of them) work on contingency, so you will not have to front their fees. Depending on the details, you may have legal recourse, but the worker's compensation system is such that it is almost impossible to navigate unrepresented.

(I do NOT handle L & I cases.) Good luck!
