Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in West Virginia

Privacy Act

Last year he Board of Education gave my daughter's lunch bill to an individual to pay without my permission or knowledge. (No relationship either) She ate cold lunch most of the time. Occasionally she ate hot. I though she was eating cold lunch like she wanted. This person went to the school and stated that they wanted to take care of the bill. The Board of Education pulled my bill and had it sent to the school. Then the school pass it on to the individual. I just found out about it this week. The school's secretary wrote me a note with the lunch bill that stated, ''We understand you are taking care of ---- bill now. Is this correct?'' I called the school wanting to know what this letter was about. That I always paid her bill, plus my other two children. She stated, ''No, you haven't.'' That is how I found out about it. Where do I stand? What happen to the right to my privacy? Can they just give out my personal information to anyone who walks off the street?

Re: Privacy Act

Obviously, this is more complex than you are stating. Anyway, you should make sure of your facts, find out who this person "off the street" is and inform the school board that you consider this an invasion of privacy and an improper disclosure of your CHILD's records. If you want to sue them, get a lawyer to see what your options are.
