Legal Question in Criminal Law in West Virginia

How to Resolve an Old Misdemeanor Charge of Petit Larceny

My son was arrested for Petit and Grand Larceny in 1993 in Parkersburg.Should my son have been notified by mail of his court date? I checked with the Court and they said the notice was returned from the Police Department not served. He has not been in any trouble since then and would really like to get this resolved. Can they appoint him another attorney without going to court? Could it be dismissed for inadequate representation? Someone had suggested this misdemeanor case was so old they would just dismiss it?

Your son will have to get a lawyer to help him with this. He should call the public defender office and ask whether they can represent him.
