Legal Question in Disability Law in Wisconsin

ADA Title II, Subtitle A (local government)

Can city officials demand medical documents of disabilities? Require ceritification for service animals? Can city officials ask us to ''perform'' with our service animals (putting us in medical crisis to judge our service dogs trained tasks)? Am I required to open my home to animal control for unanounced inspections of my home because we are disabled and require service dogs? Am I required to attend and disclose at a public (with the newspaper, TV, Internet bulletin post and general public invented) City board meeting to discuss our disabilities and medical records in order to keep our service dogs? Is a city with 50 or more employees suppose to have an ADA coordinator? Is it illegal to ask more than 1. Are you disabled? 2. Is that a service dog? 3. What tasks does your service dog perform? Do I have a case and if so, how do I find an attorney to help?

If you can't afford an attorney, contact your local legal aid hotline.

The government is not required to take your word about being disabled, you should be prepared to show SHOW sort of documentation.

Contact your state representative and find out what s/he is prepared to do to help you, as well as a local attorney who can either shield you from the questions by handling them herself, OR can help you understand what the rules and laws are so that you can be less upset about the questioning and absolutely clear on what you need to do to get the services you need without harassment.
