whats the length of time from getting charges til trial when your rights say your entitled to a fast and speedy trial?

THere is both a federal right to a speedy trial and some states have a state right. In NY where I practice it is six months on a felony and 3 on a misdemeanor. The federal right is a lot longer. It is not statutory but is part of the common law. Usually we think it to be about a year to a year and a half. That amount can be lengthened depending on the kind of case it is and the reasons for the delays.
