Legal Question in Immigration Law in Wisconsin

If you have a permanent green card that has no expiration date, I understand that you never have to renew or update to new card but why are you stripped of your permanent status.( Having to renew your card every 10 years) if you decide to get a newer version card.

having to renew your card every 10 yr is not permanent status.

Seems kind of unfair to grant someone permanent status and then strip it from them if they want a newer card

never having to renew your card is permanent status.

Unless you are put in "revocation proceedings" in Court, your U.S. legal permanent residence status is not revoked, just because you have to renew your card. All you have to do is file form I-90. This is to ensure the latest anti-counterfeiting technologies are utilized AND to make sure you have not been convicted of a felony in the last 10 years.
