What does mean for "amount in protective crossing incorrect"(S.No 64 in list of cheque return reasons)

Dear Sir / Madam,
A cheque can be crossed by writing the amount of the cheque in between the two diagonal lines across the top left corner of the cheque. The reason "Amount in protective crossing incorrect" implies that there is a mismatch in the amount written within the two crossed lines and the actual amount of the cheque.
