Legal Question in Banking Law in
I have given a cheque to a packers & movers company as the balance payment for transporting household goods. The company wanted the cheque even before the items were unloaded from the truck. After the unloading I noticed that one item was not brought and another glass cabinet was totally broken. The company promised to return the missing item and repair the broken cabinet. Can I stop payment on the cheque till the delivery & repair are completed?

Law as such does not permit you to do so. You will have to file a claim for damages for the cost of missing item and broken cabinet. If your cheque is dishonoured even if for stop payment, you still would be liable under 138 Negotiable Instrument Act. which wud be criminal liability
