Legal Question in Banking Law in

I have paid 100000 as my house rent deposit in Banglore in 2009 Sep. i have vecated the house on 25th Apr 2010, as per the agreement owner should return the deposit amount however, he has issued a check with value date of 20th Aug for 50K and the remaining amount paid to me at the time i have vacated the place. Now that 50K check got bounced. What the law for bounced checks.

immediately give notice by RPAD to the landlord to pay the amount of the bounced cheque explaining as to what it represents, within 15 days of the date of receipt of notice. send copy of the same also by certificate of posting. If he does not pay within the time stipulated i.e. within 15 days of the date or deemed date of receipt of notice, file a complaint before the Local Magistrate court under Sec.138 of the Negotiable instruments Act. Better take the assistance of a local lawyer in thi exercise. If he is afraid of the prosecution, he will pay. otherwise, you can get him convicted and sentenced to imprisonment in court. If still he does not pay, you can file a suit and recover the amount by attaching his property through court.
