when i not pay cash and give the post dated cheque is it valid or not

Dear Sir / Madam,
If the payment was in settlement of some dues owed by you to the opposite party and the due date has passed, your giving a post dated cheque in settlement thereof is invalid. Whereas if the settlement of dues is at a future date, in common parlance, a post dated cheque in settlement thereof to the opposite party is valid.
