An Owner issues a bearer cheque at his / her own responsibility and liability. If you were the Cashier of the proprietory concern, you ought to have ensured that the bearer cheque is written in your name without crossing and without cancelling the words "or bearer" on the cheque. If the proprietor lodges a complaint against you, you should defend yourself on the above grounds.
