Please download the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956 from Google and read it in entirety and proceed accordingly.

Yes, the child may need to prove his adoption in court. You may better engage a counsel there to file a civil suit for declaration seeking ownership of the property on the basis of adoption.
