Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in India
Hi, My name is Maria Anil Kumar , age -30 years. I got married to a Hindu person couple of years back. My husband's name is Kandula Santosh Kumar. Now my question is as to how can I change my name from Maria to Kavitha. In all of my certificates starting from 10th to degree, I Have my name as Maria AK. My in-laws want my name to be changed legally from Maria to Kandula Kavitha and apply for a passport and aardhar card and it should reflect the name as Kavitha. Kindly suggest as what to be done.

You may change your name by inserting a public notice in some local newspaper and thereafter approach the concerned authorities - school board, college / university for incorporating the changed name in your certificates. On the basis of changed certificates, you may apply for name change in your passport.
