Copyright Problem

Dear Sir;

I am a US citizen living in Japan, and have been running a website business selling various products for about 1 1/2 years. I recently ran across a mirror copy of my website at a slightly different domain name. The site is nearly identical to mine and has stolen my logo, and articles written by myself as well as my entire website design. I would like to hire a lawyer to pursue this matter, but don't have much money. I am hoping to find someone who will take the case on a contingency and/or barter basis and/or because he/she things it's the right thing to do.

Re: Copyright Problem

Standard copyright notice is "Copyright (c) 2000 by [Name]. All rights reserved." Simply posting this gives you basic copyright protection. If your right has been violated, you still have to prove actual damages (sometimes a difficult proposition; can you quantify the dollars you lost as a result of the infringement?) unless you registered your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office. If you did, there are statutory damages that are awardable.

Regardless whether it is worthwhile to pursue damages in this case, consulting with an attorney may be useful to stop the infringement and get your copyright registered.

This is general information for discussion purposes. We would need to have an attorney-client relationship for me to give legal advice.
