Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in

I have not lived in New Zealand for 12 years; I have been in the US during that time. My sister received legal papers at her address in New Zealand for me seeking $4,000 in legal fees involving a dispute between a company and me. She does not speak English and has no power-of-attorney to act on my behalf. There were no instructions included in the legal papers. I am now told that the law firm delivering those papers will soon get a judgment against me for the $4,000. Five months have passed since my sister received the legal papers explaining their intent to go to court to obtain a judgment against me. Question: are the plaintiffs able to obtain a judgment against me without a court hearing to allow me to present my side, given the above facts and circumstances? Many thanks for taking your time to help me :]

If it was 5 months since the papers were delivered then the plaintiffs probably already have judgment against you.

The only way to work out your position is to provide the papers to a solicitor in New Zealand who can deal with the plaintiff's lawyers. We may be able to assist but we will of course have to charge fees to look at the matter.
