Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India
I am getting recovery calls from Standard Chartered bank Credit Card department demanding payment of Rs. 2,00,000 for a charge over 10 years old.
As I remeber, I stopped using this card in 2005 and there was no due pending. I got credit card and bank loan from other banks, suggesting that there was no recorded outstanding on the claimed card. I got CIBIL report few years ago which does not mention any such lapse.
I got a communication from some lawyers in Delhi followed by phone calls demanding urgent payment of dues. I checked the credit card no. mentioned was wrong and the phone no from which the lawyers called was not answered.
After several phone calls, I realised that I was target of some fraudulent activity.
Now, I got a call from a lady in Mumbai claiming to be calling from Standard Chartered bank.
When I asked her name and address of the bank, she went into argument.
I demanded proof of the outstanding or legal notice which she denied.
This is harrassment and mental torture.
It is also possible that security of bank data is compromized and fraudesters are trying take advantage of it.
What should I try in this case?

Dear Sir / Madam,
Mumbai modus operandi is Bank > Police > Court. So I suggest you do not go on assumptions and "duck" the issue because a small problem today may become a big issue tomorrow if not addressed and resolved. Be emphatic and take action based on actual facts. Produce whatever documentary evidence(s) you have to substantiate events and facts with your letter to the concerned Standard Chartered Bank Branch and take acknowledgement.
Regards,
