Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Africa
my 5 yr old child took something from a shop without me knowing. i brought it back and was made to go to police station and pay a R200 admission of guilt fine. do i now have a criminal record, and will it show up on a police clearance certificate?

I'm afraid so. Paying an admission of guilt fine has exactly the same effect as a plea of guilty or a conviction after a trial.
If you were not properly informed and warned of these consequences and if this did not happen too long ago, you may be able to appeal and have it set aside.
Yours faithfully,
