Crimes towards a person with mental health issues can be punished potentially more severely by a judge in court because the judge would view the accused person of the crimes towards a person with mental health issues as preying on those people in society who are weaker and do not have as much power as people without mental health issues. It would depend on the severity of the the mental health issues that the victim of the crimes would have. However, there definitely could be greater punishment towards the accused person for further victimizing a person with mental health issues.
