Self Representation

A character of mine is charged with 1st degree murder.

1)If he can't afford a lawyer, does he have a choice in who represents him?

2)What can he expect bail to be set at, or could he be denied bail?

3)If he is denied bail, and decides to represent himself in court; a)is he allowed special custody priviledges in order to prepare his case? b)in court, is he allowed opening/closing arguments, witnesses, cross-examinations, etc.

Re: Self Representation

He have to rigth to be represented by counsel assigned to him. If he have a good reason for not wanting the one assigned to him he can request another one; the court will go some way to grant his choice of counsel;

Murder case; high bail; depends on the information before the court.

The court can order detail conditions of the custody to allow him to prepare for the case.

He have all the rights of a defendant including; right to confron witnesess, question them, present and supoena witnesses, expert witnessess paid by the court, speedy trial and all others.

Good luck
