Legal Question in Family Law in India

I am from Bangalore, Actually my friend's dad owned a property in his(dad) name.And over a period of time dad died. My friend without transfering the khatha to his name, he selled the portion of his property to someone.

I really want to know without transfering to his name is that valid to sale to others?

He should have obtained the succession certificate.
