Legal Question in Family Law in India
Hi,
I was engaged to a girl on 7th March. It was an arranged marriage and all the things went real well.
Last week, I found out that the girl is only an Intermediate and not a graduate (BCA) as claimed by her family during the initial meeting (the same was mentioned on the Bio-Data sent by them). After I found this out, I decided not to marry her, and my family has informed the same to them,
Now they are saying that they will file a law suit against us saying that we are demanding dowry and I have an affair and hence I am saying no for the marriage.
Please let me know, if they can take any legal step against us (the only reason correct as per my knowledge is her not being a graduation and I feel really cheated because of this lie).
Also if possible kindly let me know if I can take any legal step against them if things get worst.
Thanks.

1) During matrimonials, it is common to inflate or deflate some facts like age, education etc. unless serious like insanity or unsound mind, it is not considered valid ground for rejection nor cheating.
2) Return all their expenses and try to amicably settle as the brides reputation is at stake in the society due to rejection.
3) There is no contractual relation entered till the wedding is complete. However they may fie case as u said.
Such type of people should be punished.
File a case of 420 on them before they took any action against you and mentioned therein that they have started cheating and they do so to extract money from you in the name of marriage.
Good luck
