Legal Question in Family Law in Lebanon
Hello, I am a Lebanese man who married a German girl in a civil ceremony in Cyprus, in April 2015. Our marriage was registered in Lebanon, but not in Germany what makes her still single in Germany.
We were living in Lebanon. In December 2015, my wife left Lebanon and never came back. I also tried to contact her but she had changed her German address and phone number.
I want to get divorced. I reside in Lebanon.
What is the procedure to get a divorce since my wife is not in Lebanon and hasn't been in contact with me?
Thank you

Dear Sir,
In our reply we presume that you do not have kids.
In order to divorce her, you will apply for a divorce case in front of the Civil Court of your place of residency (Beirut, Baabda, Jdeideh, etc). You will need to mention her last place of residency, which is in Lebanon. The Court will then try to serve her the divorce request at this address; but since she is not residing there anymore, and you do not have her address abroad, the Court will serve her through publication in the newspapers.
After the notification process is done, the Court might interrogate you on the circumstances of the divorce, and ask about the common properties you have, and the reasons why, according to you she left the country. The Court might investigate, through the general security on the date of her leaving.
After that, the Court will pronounce the divorce if it is convinced with the evoked reasons. Basically, the fact that the disappeared suddenly would be a solid reason for divorce under the Cyprian laws.
Hope that the above is satisfactory for you.
