Legal Question in Family Law in Nigeria

I want am getting married in January to a single mother of one. I want to adopt her child, 4 years old. The father is still alive but takes no responsibility on the child. I doubt he will want to give up rights on the child. How can I go about this?

The state you currently reside will determine how you go about it. The Child rights law of Lagos State states the procedure for adopting a child in Lagos. After the procedure has been complied with then you approach a family court to seal the process. Other states have their procedure also.
