Legal Question in Family Law in France
Short version. My wife and I agreed a simple divorce in France, no kids no money no property. Her avocat, said all I needed to do was to write a letter to the judge, and I was given the letter to write, and I would not need to be at the hearing. There would be no costs involved. I wrote the letter and sent registered. After the hearing I was told through a translation agency that my wife did not turn up for the hearing. The lawyer who I had used for a hearing 5 years before was there at court and told my wife's lawyer that she was representing me. THIS WAS AN OUTRIGHT LIE. In consequence my wife's lawyer refused to talk with me and I had to get the lawyer that I used before to act for me at the price of 1200� for an hour at the court! I believe now that my lawyer was touting for business at the first hearing which is why she said what she did. Please would you advise on steps that I can take to make a complaint against this lawyer. As a matter of interest my wife's lawyer is the Battonier of the barreau in this town.
