Legal Question in Family Law in India

Sir i filed maintenance case against my father.on first hearing he did not come.he also did not received one of two notices sent on his official and residential addresses.for second hearing..again two notices were sent..bt he did not receive them.i informed him personally via email.if on second hearing too he does not come and the court passes the ex parte order..can my father claim later for justification..or can he increase the time period of case by any legal action so that he would have to give money as late as possible?
