My niece was legally next of kin on my brothers death despite her never having seen or contacted him in 25 years. He left 17,000 sterling of which after funeral expenses was left 14,000 sterling. My question is my niece in front of a bank witness, a text fromher mobile to my daughter saying she will give 7,000 sterling and 1,500 sterling to my daughter to which my daughter replied................my niece sent me a cueque for only 3000 anf 500 sterling to my daughter.......do I have a contract???? Can I get the balance?

Dear Sir / Madam,
No, there is no legal contract unless the deceased has specified his wish in a written document. You should request your niece to pay and settle the balance, if at all she feels that you are entitled to receive it.
