Legal Question in Intellectual Property in India
My girlfriend made the mistake of proposing a transaction of copyrighted materials (books) via email (yahoo.com). The transaction never took place. The sender forwarded this email to the copyright owner who then found my girlfriend's IP address from the mail header. The copyright owner lives is USA. My girlfriend lives in India. What kind of legal steps can the copyright owner take against her? Is it possible to know a person's identity through IP address? Will the Internet Service Provider give up her real identity to the copyright owner if asked? Can the ISP ban her? Can damages be levied?
Thanks!
