Legal Question in International Law in Netherlands

Last Friday, 6. of December, I've received a call from a lawyer from Rotterdam, Netherlands, saying that my common-law spouse, Croatian citizen, was arrested and that he is in jail. The lawyer couldn't tell me why is he arrested or give me any information about it. I am aware that this is the regular law procedure in Netherlands.

My question is; how long can police in Netherlands hold him in custody before he gets a lawyer and before they notify his family? For example, could he have been arrested on Monday and I have been informed about that on Friday?

Dear Madam,

In the Netherlands, when a lawyer is called to assist an arrested person, he will lways be told what the charge is. And the details will be available some hours later.

The law in the Netherlands states that a lawyers needs to be present during the first interview with the Police. So the lawyers knows immediately what the charges are.

Our firm regularly visits arrested people in jails all over the Netherlands.
