Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

I have a property which does not state the term of lease, but is a perpetual lease (By pre-independance Govt. of British-India). My question is, What does perpetual lease according to Indian law means...a lease for 99 years or forever? And any disadvantage of such property when compared to a freehold property as far as ownership is concerned??
