Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Trinidad and Tobago

hi i'm from trinidad and my passed away last month so im going to make this short as possible.he was married long ago to someone else but got divorced and he has four kids with that woman, then he met my mother who they had six kids but my mother is also deceased too so that leaves us 10 children.the other set of children are older and now they want to come and claim everything because my father left no will.they never came and looked for the man when he was living did not even offer a cent for funeral expenses or nothing, they just came and put on a great show, neway none of that matters to u but my oldest sister here is 33 years so thats how long he left them and more but we did everything and the death certificate is on my sister's name here.if that accounts for anything.and then here we have one greedy brother as well who thinks he should get everything because he's the only male here.it's fightdown and messy.my sis has a good heart but she just doesnt want his other kids get anything only we know why they are greedy and that's all they're looking for.btw about 2 weeks b4 my father died the only thing he has close to a will a letter he had written giving everything in my siste's name and signed it.but a jp did not guess he dident live to do it.some advice would be great.

From what I gathered, you father died without a will, (assuming the "letter" was not signed and attested in the presence of two witnesses). Consequently, he would be deemed to have died intestate. In Trinidad, the law of intestacy would apply, and an application must be made to the High Court for Letters of Administration. Once acquired, the deceased's estate would be divided according to law, in this case, since there is no living spouse, all the children of the deceased are entitled to equal shares.
