Legal Question in Administrative Law in Alabama
I was up for a promotion at walmart...I applied for the job and found out today that they hired a girl, younger than me with less experience...I have been with walmart for 2 year..she for just 1 year...I trained her and they passed me up....I am a excellent employee and feel that the reason was the manager likes this girl and even took her to lunch recently...which is against walmart code to socialize with lower employees outside of work. Am I wrong for feeling this way? Is there anything I can do? Thank you for your opinion.

You need to contact your Market HR Manager and request an investigation stating you feel the promotion was related to quid pro quo and mention the lunch meeting. Many factors come into play concerning promotions, age is a factor that should never be considered, and length of employment being the least of importance, as every employer should want to develop their staff, but ultimately the most qualified person is the one who should obtain the opening. You can also request feedback based on your performances as to why you were not promoted. For example, if you have excellent performance reviews you need to request a mentor, perhaps your store manager or the MHRM so they can help ready you for a promotion. If you believe your MHRM is not responsive you can go to your DHRM. Ultimately, Wal-Mart must validate through documentation the most qualified candidate was chosen and that it was not based on what you believe to be quid pro quo and age discrimination.
