Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Alabama

No follow-up in Chapter 13 court

I'm doing research for an article on bankruptcy, namely Chapter 13 filings and have be unable to find an answer to this subject's dilema: Chapte 13 was filed in 1992 when the subject was going through a depression. That same year the subject lost his job. He has not heard from anyone since he filed. The attorney and court trustee have vanished. Did the court, attorney and trustee fail in some way? What are his options now? He wants to move one with his life but says this is hanging over him. Any suggestions?

Although I am licensed to practice law in KS and Federal Court, I know nothing of the law of AL as it relates to bankruptcy. Many states have an automated telephone system whereby you may check by name or number the disposition of a bankruptcy. If this doesn't work, call the clerk of the bankruptcy court. Either he completed his plan (if he lost his job, probably not) or his case was dismissed--if the latter, you must know on what basis. It may be that the statute of limitations has run on many of his creditors if he no longer hears from them.Hope this may be helpful to you.
