Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Alabama

submitting crediors information

I have not received any bills for over 2 years. All creditors info was lost in a fire. How do I submit account numbers / creditors phone and amounts otherwise? Credit reports do not show this detail?

Re: submitting crediors information

You may go to a web site such as Experian.com and obtain your credit report online (if you have a bank debit card), or you can order it by phone from Experian in Orange, California (they have a toll-free number). Good luck! -Robert F. Cohen, Esq.

Re: submitting crediors information

Thank you for your question. I'm writing, because I don't believe the other two attorneys totally answered your question. It sounds as though you are preparing a bankruptcy, but you don't know what to put in under account numbers, as the credit reports often leave off digits, or mark them with an XXXX.

In such a case, you will need to reconstruct everything you have for that debt. If you know who you had debts with, you can call the company or the collection agency and get their account number.

Another idea, and this is controversial, is to put down your social security number. Credit reports work off your SSN, and every credit card issuer also has a way to look up your account through your SSN. However, many attorneys will tell you it's not a good idea necessarily to have your SSN number out there, but both the bankruptcy court and your creditors have it anyway.

Good luck.
