Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Alabama

''legal represntation''

If an individual elects not to have a lawyer represent them in court (civil, criminal or traffic), but doesn't want to represent themselves, can they have someone else represent them, or does the law require it to be a lawyer? Example - Could a parent represent their child who is only 16? If so, what are the statues or case law which gives the individual this option/right?

Only a lawyer can represent another person in court. In fact, that is essentially the definition of a lawyer -- a person authorized to be the legal representative of others in court proceedings.

Representing someone in court is practicing law, and only licensed attorneys are allowed to do that.
