Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama
deceased husband's credt card debts
My sister's husband passed away. No assets except for a $50,000 life insurance policy with her as sole beneficiary. House and property are in her name not his. There is a credit card debt that is in his name only. Is my sister legally liable to pay off this debt? There was no will - no probate.

Re: deceased husband's credt card debts
Your sister probably has no liability for the debt that was solely in her husband's name. Your sister needs to talk to a probate attorney in the state where they lived as there may be notice issues involved. As with many situations, spending the time and money to consult with an attorney experienced in your field will pay off in the end.
