grand theft
a motel organization sent my wife a large check in her name to her address and she cashed it at pawn shop. 6 years later the sheriff picked her up and locked her up in florida. she did even know she did anything wrong. The guy at the pawn shop pressed charges. whats her chances. she is hard time working her job at nursing homes because that felony charge keep showing up.

I'd need a lot more information before I could evaluate her case. For example, how much was the check for? Why did she think she was owed the money? Was there some reason to believe the money could be stolen or the check could be fraudulent? Did she contact the motel organization before cashing the check? Did she make any attempt to investigate the check to see whether it was fraudulent? Why cash it at a pawn shop instead of depositing it, like most people would?
