Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Alabama

i had a gym membership with golds gym. i moved away and tried to get it canceled but they gave me the runaround. now they say i owe them money but i don't have the money to give them right now. but they won't give me until the beggining of the year. they are threatning to garnish my wages and take my income tax return. Can they do that???

Have you been sued? If you haven't been sued, then no collection agency should be able to garnish your wages and take your income tax return. The only exception is federal student loans.

Often the collection agencies for gyms get very aggressive and we have sued them in the past for this.

Which collection agency is it?

Carefully document everything that is being said/threatened and then get with a consumer lawyer in Alabama to go over your option of suing the collection agency.
